Lanny Bergner is an artist who specializes in creating “flame painted” stainless steel mesh sculptures, vessels, tables and wall hangings. Lanny first started working with insect screening in 1983 during his final year of Graduate School at Tyler School of Art. He went on to develop the metal mesh medium into a unique art form, which now features imagery burned into the mesh by a propane torch. His works range from sculptural tables and baskets to ethereal site-specific museum/gallery installations and public works.
Lanny is inspired by the natural world with his work referencing biomorphic forms (plant biology, microorganisms, undersea creatures), earth geology and cosmology. They engage the viewer with glimpses into a world where nature and manmade material coalesce, celebrating the mystery and wonder of it all.
