"Blue Cane Water Basket" by Mark Ditzler

Fused and slump molded glass cane. 18" x 3.5" x 14.75", 5 lbs., 2021. This glass bowl could be a pool of water or perhaps a swirling cloud. A composition in blue color tones, it features approximately 30 feet of signature glass cane. In a multi-step process the cane is pulled in the hot shop, reshaped, arranged and fused in the kiln. It is then fired in a slump mold to give it's final shape. Intricate patterns inside the cane are revealed as the fusing process melts and smooths the glass.

Mark Ditzler Glass Studio has been producing kiln-formed glass art on commission for over 25 years. Project locations include hospitals, clinics, corporations, department stores, and fine residences. The studio has also completed several public art projects.

We specialize in fused glass wall panels, which are a unique alternative to framed wall art. They are easy to install, the colors are brilliant and never fade, and the glass is durable and easy to clean. Each panel features our signature twisted cane, made in the hot shop exclusively for the purpose of being re-melted into fused glass. This process exposes the beautiful inner structure of the cane to the viewer. The panels include other colorful details such as iridized glass, Italian-style murrini, gold or silver foils, and brilliant dichroic glass. These design elements are arranged in the kiln and the entire panel is fired to 1500 F, where it becomes one seamless piece. Once cooled, the panel has a reflective backing applied and it is mounted to 3/4" plywood, ready for installation. Mounting hardware is included.
